The first is the creation and flow of goods or services that serve the needs of society. Such goods and services enrich our lives. To answer the cynic, this is not a zero-sum situation - there is an actual enhancement of value where everybody gains. This cycle of production and consumption is the engine of growth and progress in our everyday life.
The second, it is pure serendipity, is the ability to help others. It is only through commercial success that a person or organization can generate the necessary resources to help the less fortunate. Society will always comprise the fortunate and the less fortunate. There will always be the need to lend others a helping hand. Good intentions may be commendable, but one cannot do much good from just passing the hat around. Serious charity work, to be effective and sustainable, demands a continuous commitment of resources.
Our first major project, a school, will be implemented in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is an apt choice, because Cambodia is a neighbour, and the children there have undergone great hardships. I know this from personal experience - I had been to Cambodia as a member of Oxford Cambodia Trust, where much work is done to help children landmine victims. A school will be an extension - from supporting young limbs to invigorating young minds.
The stronger 10B International grows, the greater would be our capacity to help others. Is there a better reason to work?
