Many have lauded the heart-healthy benefits of olive oil in the Mediterranean diet; countries in these regions have lower rates of cardiovascular related diseases. Working from this basis, our scientific researches have concluded that biophenols, a family of natural multi-action phenolic compounds present in olives, provide multiple health benefits.
Professor Dr Roberto Crea, 10B International’s Director of Science & Innovation and Managing Director of 10B Therapeutics, has taken it a step further. Driven by fierce passion for his work coupled with his Italian heritage, Professor Dr Crea has looked to his homeland and harnessed a miraculous secret of the Mediterranean – The Olive.
In doing so, Professor Dr Crea has unlocked olive’s best-kept secret. Although biophenols are present in extracted olive oil, a higher concentration of these biophenols is found in the residual of olive water (juice). During his research, Professor Dr Crea was focusing his interest in a natural biophenol compound known as "hydroxytyrosol" as he noticed that it has the highest level of free radical protection activity ever reported for any natural antioxidant compound (three times more potent than those of both grape seed extract and epicatechin from green tea).
In what could be likened to turning carbon into diamonds, Professor Dr Crea has created The Integrale™ method – a proprietary environmentally friendly process to harvest hydroxytyrosol from olive juice without the use of solvent – and, subsequently, incorporated this compound into an effective patented, proprietary multi-action biophenols formulation leveraging the essence from the olive fruit.

Professor Dr Roberto Crea (Prof. C.) is currently a Professor of Molecular Genetics at the University of Messina, Italy. Prof. C. was previously the Associate Professor (DNA Chemical Synthesis) and Fellow (Enzymes and DNA Synthesis) at Gorlaeus Laboratoria Leiden University, Leiden, The Netherlands.
Prof. C. graduated from the University of Messina, Italy with his first Degree in Chemistry. He subsequently obtained both his Doctor Degree in Chemistry and Post Doctoral in Biological Chemistry in University of Pavia, Italy, and was also a Fellow of the Biochemistry of Cartilage in the same university.
Prof. C. is a pioneer in the field of biotechnology. He was one of the four original Scientific Directors for Genentech, Inc. With over 30 years of experience, he has made many outstanding contributions to the medical field. He was instrumental for the development of human insulin and other human therapeutic drugs.
He has also founded several successful biotechnology companies including Creative Biomolecules, Inc and Creagen, Inc. He has more than 25 families of international patents to his name, and he has co-authored more than 50 scientific articles and journals.
Prof. C. is a recipient of the Rumbough Award for Scientific Contribution presented by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of America.
